他の桜とは違う豪華さと気品と優雅さを備えた醍醐寺の桜。豊臣秀吉が、応仁の乱で焼失した寺の復興と共に、桜の植樹など準備に約1年かけて行った「醍醐の花見」の舞台がここ醍醐寺です。この「醍醐の花見」は秀頼、北政所、淀殿、それに大名の長束正政家など約千三百名を従えて催されました。醍醐寺では、毎年4月の第二日曜に「醍醐の花見」を再現した「豊太閣花見行列」が行われ、醍醐の春を祝います。
